Entomology

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Development of molecular diagnostic tools for detection of mutations associated with resistance to insecticides in aphids (Μyzus persicae s.l., Aphis gossypii, Therioaphis trifolli). Insecticide resistance in aphids, fruit flies and codling moth. Development of diagnostic-dose bioassays for monitoring of insecticide resistance in economically important insect pests. Evolution and dispersal of Μyzus persicae nicotianae (tobacco aphid) super-clones – characterization of insecticide resistance profiles and other competitive traits. Insect – plant interactions. Aphid – virus interactions (transmission efficiency of plant viruses by aphid species and genotypes, feeding behaviour of aphids in relation to viruses transmission). Integrated Managements of several insect pests and insect-transmitted viruses. Development of Information Technology tools (local scale Database) for improving the sustainability of chemical control agricultural pests of major economic importance in Greece. Migration, dispersal and molecular ecology of insect pests.
